For HAUS PARTY 004, we wanted to play with Scale in both our art curation and event production. After our success at Haus Party 003, we returned to a smaller, more intimate style of gathering.

Hosted in the titular Partridge Haus (Gregory’s personal home in Somerville), Haus Party 004 was a daytime, outdoor, backyard gathering. The walls of the Partridge Haus transformed from residential to gallery in the matter of a single morning.

50 of our partridges returned home to the nest for a beautiful afternoon of art and community.

CURATORIAL STATEMENT

“Scale” - From micro to macro, scale affects perception of objects, places, and one another. Accepted works play with scale, context, and relation.

We sought work that reflected on the theme of “Scale.” Given the intentionally smaller nature of this gathering, we thought it would be fitting to have work that also seeks to understand how the size in context can change meaning and understanding.

bringing it together

this Haus Party was the much-needed breather after a string of large-production, large-scale Haus Parties. we reminded ourselves of why we started this event series: to create a container where different artists and their communities could collide to create something beautiful together.

in addition to the gallery show, Haus Party 005 was a potluck that nourished the body and the soul. we constructed a cyanotype station to take advantage of the sunny Somerville weather and encourage participants to make sun prints with micro natural objects. and finally, a drag performance by our dear friend Floxxy Mama closed out the afternoon.

though this event was intentionally smaller in scale than previous iterations, it’s impact was still large. we were so moved to see our community coming together, eating, socializing, and making connections.
