HAUS PARTY 001 WAS OUR FIRST FORAY INTO CREATING SOMERVILLE’S FIRST NIGHTCLUB-MUSEUM.
WE ACTIVATED A CONVERTED WAREHOUSE SPACE TO DISPLAY OUR GALLERY SHOW “ELABORATIONS” FEATURING THE PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK OF DAVID MEANIX.
CURATORIAL STATEMENT
To elaborate is to render complexity visible
By foregrounding elaboration as both aesthetic and political strategy, these portraits demonstrate how queer practices make visible the complexities that dominant institutions attempt to contain, erase, or naturalize.
Each portrait in this exhibition is an act of elaboration - of self, of relation, and of community. The exhibition proposes portraiture not as likeness but as a practice of expansion.
In each image, complexity is made visible through elaboration — through gesture, ornament, expression, and presence. Together, these portraits insist on queerness as something more than identity: as a mode of relation, a practice of adorning life, a way of making multiplicity visible.
This event was also the unveiling of the Partridge Haus.
We presented our vision for our role in the community, discussed our proposed programming and future events, and opened a dialogue on how we could best serve the community at large.
Haus Party 001 was a full sensory experience to delight the senses.
Attendees were invited to view the photo vignettes, each of which was paired with a curated, home-cooked food item. Throughout the night, local queer DJs soundtracked the room for an immersive evening of sight, sound, and taste.
